課程概述

This course is specially designed for (a) the students of “Taiwan Study Program” (台灣研究學程), (b) the foreign undergraduate and graduate students, or called “international students”, enrolled in National Taiwan University, and (c) the students who are interested in learning the progress of Taiwan technologies. The students can be in any major or department, such as in college of law, management, life science, engineering, and science, etc. The language used in this course is English. The maximum number of the students for this course is limited to 80. Local Taiwanese students, maximum 40 persons, can also take this course.
The instructors for this course include (1) Dr. H.J. Sheen, Professor of Institute of Applied Mechanics, National Taiwan University and Director of Nano-Electro-Mechanical-System (NEMS) Research Center, and (2) Prof. Robert Y. Lai, Chair Professor of Tatung University. During the semester we are going to introduce many new technology achievements in Taiwan industries and research institutes during the past few decades, especially after 1980.


本課程屬於類似通識課程,以英文授課,適合一般大學部學生修課,尤其是非工程類科學生。課程將介紹台灣過去近三十年來發展的多項科技與產業,主要授課對象為 (a)台灣研究學程學生;(b)國際學生,包括大學部學生及研究生;(c)對台灣近年科技發展以及產業想認識的學生。 

課程目標
During the past few decades of rapid economic development, the industrial landscape of Taiwan has changed dramatically. The modern, high-tech, urban face of this island is nowadays much better known around the world than that of our more traditional, low-tech countryside. The achievements were contributed by the encouragement and financial support of the government and the hard-working and innovations of the private enterprises.
Taiwan's total land area is only about 36,000 square kilometers, but it amazingly has many world-leading technologies in the following technology areas: IC related industry, display industry, computer and information industry, nano- and biomedical technology, agriculture and ecological research, and traditional industry transformation, etc. These conspicuous results present innovative creation ability in Taiwan and are highly interesting for people to explore.
This introductory course intends to provide the students the basic understanding to learn the technological creation results of Taiwan, as well as to develop and discover what their research and career interests are.

在經濟快速發展的時期,台灣的產業藍圖在過去50年間歷經戲劇性的改變後,相較於傳統、低科技的農村景致,現代化、高科技的城市風貌如今在全球已廣為人知。而這一切得歸功於政府的支持以及私人企業的努力。
台灣是一個只有三萬六千平方公里的小島,卻驚奇地在科技和工業上開創許多世界第一,例如:IC半導體產業、顯示器產業、資訊產業、奈米生醫科技成就、農業生態研究、以及傳統產業轉形高科技產業等。這些顯著的成果顯示出台灣新穎的創造能力,並引起世人高度探索興趣.。
本課程將從生態、醫療、能源、教育、產業、通訊、半導體等不同層面,去介紹過去幾十年台灣的成長與轉變,以及最新科技與產業發展,使學生更了解台灣的半導體、網絡、通訊、生技至奈米科技等高科技產業的發展與現況,並培養其學習研究的興趣,以及未來生涯規劃。
